Karel Bredenkamp
Karel has 30 years’ experience in the intellectual Property (IP) field.
Karel is an engineer (B.Eng (Electronic Engineering) (Rand Afrikaans University)), an attorney (B.Proc. (UNISA)), a registered patent attorney and has the right of appearance in the High Courts of South Africa. Apart from extensive litigation and prosecution experience, Karel advises on commercialisation of IP including structuring, licensing, manufacturing, development, technology transfer and the like.
Most of Karel’s patent drafting work has been in the mechanical and electromechanical fields for clients in industries such as mining, medical devices, security and IT. Karel is a past lecturer on the Drafting of Patent Specifications for trainee patent attorneys in South Africa. Karel is a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL). Karel attends international conferences such as INTA, ASIPI and LESI.

Lienkie du Plessis
Lienkie is currently completing her LLB degree and is working towards becoming a trademark attorney.
She achieved her honours degree in Corporate Communication through the North West University and was a lecturer at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in their Communication Science department prior to joining Bredenkamp Attorneys Inc.

Marko Vermaak
Marko is a registered patent attorney who holds a Bachelor of Information Science degree as well as an LLB degree from the University of Pretoria.
Marko has experience in the preparation, filing and prosecution of patents and designs both locally and internationally. Most of Marko’s patent drafting work has been in the fields of information science, mobile phone related technologies and in the mechanical field.

Brian Wimpey
Brian Wimpey studied law at the University of the Witwatersrand and completed his B. Proc. and post-graduate LLB in 1983.
He was admitted as an attorney in 1986 and has practiced exclusively in intellectual property for 37 years. Brian was elected as a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) in 1991 after passing its specialist exams and was President of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property (SAIIPL) from 2009 to 2010. Since 1995, Brian has been a lecturer and examiner in respect of the group 1 and 2 trademark exams offered by the Institute.
Brian is also senior adjudicator of the ADR-ZA Domain Dispute Resolution Authority. Brian’s experience comes from a range of contentious and non-contentious trademark, copyright and related work and he has run a number of interesting litigation matters before both the registrar of trademarks and the High Court for major international and local clients.
Brian has contributed to the international publications World Trademark Review (https://www.worldtrademarkreview.com/) and the Life Sciences Law Review 2nd edition, and the Intellectual Property Magazine (https://www.intellectualpropertymagazine.com/) among others.

Karen Kitchen
Karen is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL), and an attorney that is dual qualified in Zimbabwe and South Africa who holds a B.Com (Information Systems) degree (University of Cape-Town), and an LLB degree (University of Cape-Town).
She has over 15 years of experience in Intellectual Property (IP) Law practice, specializing in trade mark and copyright law. She has assisted local and international clients in a variety of industries with streamlining and protecting their intellectual property rights, in particular their trade mark portfolios, and the prosecution, registration, commercialisation, and enforcement of same.
She also furnishes clients with advice on food labelling, copyright, IP valuations, and transfer of IP rights across borders, which includes offering structuring, licensing, and transfer pricing insight.

Marolien van Aardt
Marolien has degrees in B.Sc. Chemistry and LLB from the University of Pretoria.
She was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2020 and is currently working towards completing the Patent Board Examinations. Before joining Bredenkamp Intellectual Property Attorneys, Marolien worked as a research assistant in the Physical Chemistry Department of the University of Pretoria.
Marolien has experience in general litigation and is head of Bredenkamp Intellectual Property Attorney’s litigation department.

Charlene Prinsloo
Charlene Prinsloo has 23 years’ experience in Intellectual Property. Before joining Bredenkamp Attorneys in 2019, Charlene worked at major law firms in South Africa, where her work included filing and prosecution of patents, registered designs and plant breeders’ rights. She deals with incoming patent and registered design applications received from local and foreign clients as well as dealing with the subsequent administration, prosecution and formalities thereof.

Bianca Luwes
Bianca Luwes has been working in the legal sector since 2021. At the firm, she forms part of the Intellectual Property team, providing administrative and procedural support in relation to trademarks, designs, patents, and related litigation matters. Her responsibilities include assisting with filings, managing deadlines, maintaining records, and liaising with clients and associates. Bianca holds a Foundation Degree in Accounting and Finance from Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

Feli Sibanda
Feli has 5 years’ experience in general office administration. Feli joined Bredenkamp Attorneys Inc. when she moved from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to South Africa.
